Our Values

Creative work
We believe passionately that the Arts belong to everyone, that being creative is a fundamental human attribute, and a right. The same entitlement is due to our young and diverse audiences and the quality of their experience should be no less enriching, inspiring and empowering. We create and perform theatre for children and their families, seeking to engage them all in the adventure and the fun.

Our Approaches
Our performances are interactive, multi-sensory, and playful. With our relaxed performance style, we work close to audience, relating to them within the imaginary circumstances of our stories, and include dramatic moments where our characters need their help or advice. We remain sensitive to the needs of audience members, responding and adjusting our performance according to these. While appropriately encouraging participation - welcoming and valuing contributions - we respect individual readiness to participate, remaining alert to how that possibility might vary, from moment to moment, and person to person. These approaches make our work particularly accessible for those with additional needs and we are developing our work to include those with PMLD.
Stories help us make sense of life experiences; Boo to a Goose create narratives and archetypes with which our audiences can relate, and which may inspire stories and ideas of their own, so helping them prepare to navigate an increasingly complex world which they will inherit.
With our use of repurposed and D.I.Y. stage props we seek to inspire imaginative play, and find opportunities to evoke a sense of nostalgia for parents and grandparents among our audiences.

Environment
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and are starting a transition towards net zero. We intend to deliver this throughout the whole process of our shows right from our planning stage to touring. We are dedicated to making theatre accessible to everyone hence why we travel to you. By nature, our pop-up theatre set is simplified to travel easily and is sustainably managed to use minimal building components such that it can be transported smoothly between locations. However, our set and props have been repurposed and remodelled to each new show. Our puppets are now either hand-made, recycled or repurposed. Most of our costumes are now recycled, obtained either from charity shops or from previous shows. We also fashion costumes from recycled materials or by altering previous clothing. This reduces the emissions and water associated with the purchase of new materials, while minimizing our waste. We consider our environmental impact in the operation of our shows too. Touring routes throughout Devon are planned meticulously to cover the least distance. Efficient planning ensures fuel consumption is kept to a minimum. In conjunction to this, we mainly employ creatives from the South West when developing our shows and outsourcing talent. We aim to establish sustainable targets for upcoming tours to measure our results against and ensure constant progress as we navigate the future of theatre.
